I used to have a whiskey blender that I bought on ebay, it was really cool, but it didn’t survive the transport, so that was it for that idea! But in the mean time I looked around my place and saw I had a miniature keyboard I’d bought for $14.00 at a thrift store. I wanted somewhat more convincing percussion, so I decided to use that. 7 years later, I’m still trying to get the right hi-hat to!

This was a band I helped start, and also a band I recorded one song for but never played in. It was sorta planned to be a concept album about my best friend and his life. It was all very Johnny Cash/David Crowder Band-esque, and the idea was to record a bunch of songs that were written/arranged/played by different people while I sang the entire time. I recorded the music and some of the lyrics I wrote, but sorta never got around to recording the vocals, so I’m afraid the whole thing never happened! I think we were having trouble booking rehearsal space and a job that I was doing to support myself and that’s why it never really happened, and also why no one has ever heard any of it, because I make progress VERY slowly, I don’t EVER get any MP3s out. I guess that’s the curse of being in a band while recording/making records. BUT I still write and record songs with Trombone Shorty and I love them all, so maybe someday I’ll visit the idea again.

Getting into music after a decade of not really doing anything that was musical besides bugzapping was, understandably, rather slow, but all the albums I put out since then have turned out great. It’s been a good learning experience. And actually, all of these years of not making music, making music and doing music related stuff was really just me being a loafer who’d been away from the music scene for so long that he was trying to figure SOMETHING out, and now he’s figured out exactly what he wants to do and it’s making music.
