Trouble using regular expressions with Ruby

So I am working on a little bit of code to scrape a given website. I’m running into trouble when using Ruby’s regular expressions.
I have tried using Regexp.new but it doesn’t seem to recognize what I want. I have a very simple regex that checks if a string has any of the following patterns: \D+(\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d)? and \D+[\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d]+\.
In general, my approach is: if (string.match(regex)) { do this }
I’ve also tried using Regexp.new with something like:
mystring.match( /\D+(\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d)?/ )
But it returns false. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

For starters, you need to escape the backslashes since they’re being used to denote special characters in regexp:
mystring.match( /\D+(\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d)?/ )
^ ^

Otherwise, the regexp doesn’t match what
